About Jonathan Engel

Jonathan Engel

Computer Science & IT Administrator

Jonathan was raised in Bryson City, NC, where he developed a love for the outdoors, hands-on problem solving, and lifelong learning. He served five years on active duty in the United States Marine Corps as an Aviation Electrician before working for three years as a high and low-voltage electrician. While stationed in Beaufort, SC, Jonathan met his bride (Jessica), and they welcomed their first two children.

In 2021, Jonathan and his family returned to Bryson City, where he transitioned into information technology, serving as a remote IT Manager and Support Technician, while also serving as the Operations and Facilities lead at Camp Living Water in Bryson City. These experiences have given him a practical understanding of how technology, leadership, and service work together to solve real-world problems.

Jonathan and his family moved to Franklin, NC, in 2025, with two more children, and a fifth on the way. He and his family are active members of Cowee Baptist Church in Franklin, where Jonathan serves in the Church’s Trail Life ministry. In his free time, he enjoys gardening, studying history and theology, playing historical strategy and tabletop games, spending time outdoors with his family, and he dabbles in 3D printing.

Currently completing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Liberty University, Jonathan is passionate about helping students develop technical skills, critical thinking abilities, and a biblical perspective on work and technology. He enjoys showing students how computer science can be used creatively and responsibly to serve others. His goal is to help equip young men and women to pursue excellence, think thoughtfully, and use their God-given gifts to make a positive impact in their communities and future careers.
