My name is Beth Curry, and I have a passion for learning and teaching. My love of teaching is an outgrowth of my enthusiasm for learning. I have always had a curious mind and a desire to search out a matter and look for answers and solutions. I grew up in the military and moved frequently in my childhood. This included changing schools regularly, often in the middle of the school year. Consequently, I learned at an early age about different teaching sequences and methodologies. Thankfully I was always able to adapt and continue my learning.
As a high school senior, I felt that God was calling me to Christian education, and I surrendered my dream of becoming a medical doctor to follow the Lord’s calling for my life. I graduated from college in 1997 with a B.S. in Secondary Education and began teaching that same year. I taught high school biology for four years in Indiana before relocating to Alabama. In Alabama my husband and I served in ministry at a Christian school for 13 years. While there I taught numerous math and science classes for middle school and high school. We moved here to Franklin, NC, in 2014. Since then, I have taught multiple classes for middle school and high school. I also homeschooled my three sons for two years. The classes I’ve taught in parochial schools include General Mathematics, Prealgebra, Business Math, Consumer Math, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Precalculus, Trigonometry, Life Science, Earth & Space Science, Biology, Physical Science, Chemistry, and Physics. I enjoy all these subjects and more. As a teacher it is my goal to simplify the complex. It is a joy to witness students succeeding in subjects that they once thought were too difficult.
The Lord Jesus Christ is our ultimate example as a teacher. He asked questions; He used parables – familiar, relatable stories – to teach deeper truths to regular people. Every student is a one-of-a-kind original created in the image of God. I believe every person has a God-given purpose. I do not know God’s purpose for every person, but it is my goal to equip students to become whatever God desires them to be. Jesus Christ is the foundation and cornerstone of a successful life, and I endeavor to add to that Foundation a strong academic framework that is prepared for the next steps of a young person’s life. I hope to be a tool in the hand of God that He uses to help His people accomplish His work.
